As we approach the 11th November and start to wear our poppies as a mark of respect to the fallen. Macmillan Academy and Archibald Primary School students will be learning about the history behind the awarding of medals and the symbolic significance of them.
The students will be designing commemorative medals inspired by the collection at The Green Howards Museum (Richmond), some of which were awarded to military personal from Middlesbrough. Students will be encouraged to generate designs that incorporate the poppy and develop their artistic skills of applying tone and colour blending. Creating their designs will give students the opportunity to consider the experiences of the fallen as well as remembering their sacrifice.
Why not take a look at the film below, which has been produced to help support our students' understanding of this project.
In addition to the above project, but also linked to the act of Remembrance, a group of students from both Macmillan Academy and Archibald Primary School will be visiting Beamish Museum to record a special film which will be shown in both schools as part of this year’s commemorative events. Why not check back in future weeks to see how this partnership project is developing?
